FAIRBORN — Power has been restored to Wright State University’s Creative Arts Center, but two other buildings remained closed after an early morning electrical fire on Thursday, May 14, in the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library on campus.
The Dunbar Library and TV Center remain without power and will continue to be closed through the morning of Friday, May 15, said Stephanie Gottschlich, university spokeswoman.
Power has been restored to the Library Annex, but the Registrar’s Office has canceled classes held in the Annex through Thursday, May 14, because of a lack of air conditioning.
Wright State’s computing and telecommunications systems, including Internet and wireless connectivity, were restored by 11:30 a.m. Thursday and are operating normally, Gottschlich said.
The fire in a transformer at the Dunbar Library was reported about 7:05 a.m. Thursday. The fire was extinguished and there were no injuries, Gottschlich said.
The Fairborn Fire Department responded to the fire alarm. Damage was contained to the transformer, Gottschlich said. A cost estimate for the damage was not available.
An air conditioning failure at the Dunbar Library on Thursday morning had caused some campus Internet servers to overheat. This caused sporadic Internet connectivity and no wireless access across campus, Gottschlich said.
Earlier reports of a lightning strike causing the Internet failure could not be confirmed, Gottschlich said.
