The Ohio Controlling Board approved Monday a $1.98 million Clean Ohio grant to the city for demolition and remediation activities at the former Hooven and Allison Cordage Company site.
State Sen. Chris Widener, R- Springfield, announced the grant saying it could create at least 25 new jobs for Xenia.
“These high-paying, highly-skilled jobs in biofuels production are a welcome addition for the local economy and represent the type of high-tech, advanced jobs Ohio needs to return to economic prosperity,” he said.
The grant will demolish and remediate the property at 677 Cincinnati Ave. Following remediation, Xenex BioFuels, LLC will invest $52 million to develop a portion of the site into a state-of-the-art biofuels production center. The facility is expected to produce 20 million gallons of biodiesel each year and create at least 25 new jobs with average hourly wages of $37.50.
