As part of the City of Dayton’s “SafeLight Dayton” Red Light Enforcement Program, automated red light enforcement cameras have been installed at two additional intersections in the city. The new cameras began taking photographic images of red light violations at the intersections of North Main Street at Hillcrest Avenue and Route 35 at Abbey.
A city ordinance provides the authority to enforce red light traffic violations via photo technology and to exact an $85.00 fine.
The automated digital camera systems and sensor devices are installed at selected intersections that have high red light violation and accident occurrences. The cameras provide 24-hour traffic surveillance to photograph vehicles that enter the intersection after the traffic signal has turned red.
