Downtown Dayton deli closes after 6 months

A café-bakery that opened in January in downtown Dayton has shut its doors.

Tasty Measures Cafe, 200 S. Jefferson St. across from the Dayton Convention Center, was not generating enough business, its co-founder, Bethany Horn, said this morning.

“I had to close, as sales were not even covering labor costs,” Horn said. “I am still deciding what to do.”

Horn said she is looking into converting the business to a co-operative kitchen-commissary for mobile food businesses such as food trucks, caterers and hot dog carts.

Founders Bethany and Aaron Horn also own Cheeky Meat Pies in the 2nd Street Market in downtown Dayton.

When it opened, Tasty Measures sold sandwiches and salads and made its own breads and deli meats. It also offered baked goods, omelets, breakfast tacos, and a variety of coffee products.

The bakery-cafe’s location previously housed Sa-Bai Asian restaurant until 2013 and, before that, Chin’s Oriental Cafe.
