BEAVERCREEK — Voters Tuesday approved a 1-mill levy renewal for Beavercreek schools, according to final, unofficial results with the Greene County Board of Elections.

The levy passed 61 percent to 39 percent in Greene County, or 6,324 votes to 4,001. In Montgomery County, where a small portion of the school district sits, the levy passed 53 percent to 47 percent.

“We’re very thrilled and are very blessed by a community that supports our schools,” Beavercreek Superintendent Gale Mabry said.

The levy raises about $800,000 annually for permanent improvements such as maintenance, computers and technology, school buses and any capital item that lasts five years or longer, Mabry said.

School officials say the levy’s been on the books for more than 20 years.

Mary Jo-
'Tis your lack of education, rather your lack of reading comprehension that is showing.
Nowhere was it said the state should fund schools. However, it was said the state ruled (twice actually) THAT IT'S ILLEGAL THE WAY IT IS!!
You keep believing your delusional thought that more growth relates to less taxes, I'll keep voting no for schools. It's a crooked system
If you have kids in school then YOU PAY FOR THEIR EDUCATION!!! I shouldn't be forced to.

Your lack of education is showing...state funding for schools is insane. For example, new growth (new houses) that many of you think the schools get a lot for actually causes the calculation to go down for your house, and respreads the cost over all homes. If they get a standard type levy it is for a fixed DOLLAR amount. So new homes make a bigger tax base and the amount per home goes DOWN. Its a constantly moving amount. EDUCATE yourself instead of being a WHINER.

Mary Jo, that is so muck bunk, every year here comes the school with a bond of levy. I wish I could run my business like the school system. Oops out of money, well lets let everybody in the creek chip in to keep me afloat. Let the kids do fundraisers, let the parents that wish kick in some money. It's just much easier to let the taxpayers get hosed every year! Makes me wanna puke when thet get the scare book out,no money no busses, house values go downwe are too close to WPAFB for that to happen.

I have been a resident of Beavercreek longer than most of you have been alive,I have seen school taxes used/abused. I did not vote for the school levy and will not until the public gets a full accounting of all funds used in the school system. I want the children to have a good education but not some cushy liberal agenda. On one of the bonds They asked for 70K to build an covered walkway between the high school and the middle school..ever heard of an umbrella? Get a life people!

So why are we still paying?
If it's illegal, I'd say I have a pretty good case on my hands if I want to sue the school board. Again, WHAT THEY'RE DOING IS ILLEGAL!!!
I believe if the schools need money, they should get it from the parents of those who attend school here and ONLY FROM THOSE!!!
Property values WILL NOT go down if levies are defeated!! That's a scare tactic.
Property is already devalued anyhow. Yet taxes go up. Go figure!
Screw the school system!
