HUBER HEIGHTS — Two longtime Huber Heights City Council members retained their seats Tuesday, Nov. 3, while a councilman appointed last December was defeated.
And Brian Walton — the former 3rd Ward councilman who was replaced after he was sent overseas by his employer as a civilian contractor — defeated Tyler Starline, the man who had taken his seat.
Walton defeated Starline, a write-in candidate, 808-262, according to unofficial results from the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
City Attorney Alan Schaeffer said if Walton won the election, the council again would be faced with deciding whether to excuse his absences from council meetings or move to vacate the seat. Starline, an attorney, was appointed to fill Walton’s unexpired term after the council declared Walton’s seat vacant after he missed three consecutive meetings.
With 32 of 34 precincts counted, or 94 percent, council at-large incumbent Mark Campbell was leading challenger Edwin M. Primm Jr. 73 percent to 27 percent.
Ward 5 Councilman Roger D. Hensley defeated challenger David Richards 574 to 540.
With 83 percent of the precincts reporting, challenger David H. Wilson was leading incumbent appointee RoShawn Winburn 60 percent to 40 percent. Winburn was appointed in December to the seat vacated by Ron Fisher, who became mayor when Jack Hensley retired.
Wilson said Tuesday night he thought the voters valued his 18 years as a resident over his opponent’s two years.
Wilson was recently called back to his job as production scheduler at Gem City Engineering and Manufacturing after being laid off for 10 months.
