MIAMISBURG — The battle for the third and final spot on the Miamisburg City School Board is separated by 16 votes with incumbent Joseph Idzakovich holding a thin lead over challenger Christopher Amsler, according to unofficial results from the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
The top two voter getters in the Nov. 3 race were incumbents Sharon Angel and Kathleen Bates. Angel had 3,692 votes, or 17.6 percent, while Bates had 3,297 votes, or 16 percent.
However, results released today, Wednesday, Nov. 4, indicate Idzakovich was ahead of Amsler by 0.08 percent of the total ballots cast. Idzakovich had 2,778 votes, or 13.24 percent, while Amsler had 2,762 votes, or 13.16 percent.
An automatic voting recount takes place if there is a difference of a half of 1 percent in the number of ballots cast.
Betty Smith of the board of elections, said there are 157 provisional ballots, and that a canvassing of all absentee and provisional ballots will start in 10 days. She said her office must have all ballots certified by Nov. 24.
In the other race for an unexpired term on the board, Danielle Kuehnle defeated Robert Matthews Jr. 3,847 to 2,787, according to unofficial results.
Kuehnle, a real estate agent with Oberer Companies, was appointed in July to the board to fill the unexpired term of Patricia Wiggins, who moved with her family out of state.
