CLAYTON – Every Clayton government official at the Thursday, Oct. 15 meeting of Clayton City Council was wearing something pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.
Council authored a special proclamation encouraging women to get a regular mammogram test to help detect the disease in its earliest stages.
Clayton Mayor Joyce Deitering read the proclamation.
“I appreciate what all of my colleagues are doing (wearing pink), it means a lot being a breast cancer survivor,” Deitering said.
In other business, Council passed a resolution authorizing a new contract for emergency medical services billing with Med 3000.
According to Clayton Public Safety Director Richard Rose, Med 3000 has had a contract for such billing for several years now. The current contract, which expires Nov. 30, was for two years, with two one-year renewals.
“We have been very pleased with the service and we would like to extend this contract,” said Rose.
Council also endorsed Issue 40, a levy for the Dayton Metro Library system. The levy rolls the existing 1.25 mill levy for library operations and adds an additional 0.5 mill.
Councilman G. Malcolm Treon asked if a snow removal unit could be dedicated to plow cul-de-sac streets during the upcoming snow removal season.
“I would like for us to look at our budget and see if we can staff one truck to plow cul-de-sacs,” Treon asked.
Councilman Bob Peters urged Council not to overlook shorter streets.
“It is critical for those residents (on shorter streets) to get those streets plowed, too,” Peters said.
Mayor Deitering said she is in “favor” of Treon’s plan, if “we have the budget for it,” she said.
The next meeting for Clayton City Council is Thursday, Nov. 5, in Council Chambers at the Clayton Government Center, 6996 Taywood Road.
