ThinkTV16 commemorates the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Great Dayton Flood

It was 100 years ago — on Sunday, March 23, 1913 — that the rains began to fall. By Wednesday morning, 15 square miles of Dayton were underwater.

Beginning today, WPTD will present two locally-produced documentaries — “1913 Great Dayton Flood: From Story to Stage” and “Goodbye, the Levee Has Broken.”

The first film takes viewers behind-the-scenes of the Wright State University production, “1913: The Great Dayton Flood.” The program will be rebroadcast today, Sunday, March 24, at 3:30 p.m. on Channel 16.

The Emmy award-winning “Goodbye, the Levee Has Broken,” recounts the day-by-day events of the 1913 flood as experienced by its victims and survivors. The stories are taken from diaries, letters and newspaper articles, and are brought to life through drawings, film footage and archival photographs. The documentary was produced in partnership with the Montgomery County Historical Society.

That film will be seen at 4 and 9 p.m. today, 11 p.m. Monday and 8 p.m. Tuesday. It is also available for viewing on demand online at www.thinktv.org
