CSU program honors women in history

Central State University is hosting its inaugural Women’s Month Art/Spoken Word Competition.

“In order to understand where we are going, we must know where we started from,” said event coordinator Erin Smith-Glenn. “Many will come expecting entertainment, but will leave with a whole new appreciation and perception of women.”

A Visual Arts Club Women’s Month Competition will be held 6 to 8 p.m. March 11 at CSU.

During the evening, awards will be given out in two different categories: Best Women’s-Related Art Work and Women’s Relevant Spoken Word/Song. Those winning the awards will receive $50. Deadline for visual art entries is Friday, March 8, to Smith-Glenn’s office. Auditions for the spoken word/song/short skit portion of the program will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, March 4, and 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. Entry fees are $3 each; or $5 to enter both competitions.

Smith-Glenn is a CSU art instructor in the Department of Fine & Performing Arts, and the Visual Art Club’s primary advisor. She holds a master’s degree in 2-D studio art from the University of Cincinnati and earned her bachelor’s degree in the same major at CSU.

Tickets to the event can be purchased at the Music/Art Office, or through Smith-Glenn’s office #215 in the Art Department.
