A new album from Shrug is on Jasper the Colossal singer Paige Beller's list of things she'd like to see in 2013.

Dayton is widely regarded as a city ripe with musical talent, but, like any place, there’s room for improvement. We questioned several members of the local music community to find out their musical wishes for 2013.

Answering via e-mail, here is what they had to say:

David C. Obenour (editor for Ghettoblaster): “More collaboration! There are so many great things going on in Dayton done by so many passionate people, you just have to imagine that when our powers combine we could evoke the music scene’s equivalent of Captain Planet! It doesn’t just have to be music either, get the scenesters intermingling with the art geeks and beer nerds. A Robert Pollard collage hanging with a special set from The Textbook Committee? One of our new breweries teaming up with Kim and Kelley Deal for a special “Last Splash” 20th anniversary commemorative ale? Let’s make it happen!” More info: GhettoblasterMagazine.com.

Paige Beller (Jasper the Colossal singer, solo singer/songwriter): “New albums from Abertooth Lincoln, Shrug, The Trash, (and a The Trash reunion), The Turkish Delights, R.Ring and The Breeders. Also, I hope the trend of new independent Dayton labels continues.” More info: www.jasperthecolossal.com.

Jared (J.) Whittaker (producer/rapper for JFX316): “More venues supporting different musical acts. In the last few years, the musical acts I’ve been the most into are ones that are sometimes strange hybrids of multiple genres. Groups like Death Grips, The XX, Kilo Kish and Die Antwoord impressed me a great deal this past year, but would be difficult to shoehorn into a ‘normal’ bar music scene. More venues (preferably all ages) booking and supporting a growing and continuously changing underground music scene in the area would open the doors for new acts and new fans looking for something outside the bar band scene.” More info: jfx316.bandcamp.com and Twitter @JFX316.

Pam Baugham (recording artist with Sweet Betsy): “First off, let me say how proud I am of my city for all it has to offer musically, and of the support both the local community and businesses continually provide for independent musicians and bands of every genre. Dayton is both a breeding ground/nursery for new artists, and a nationally and internationally recognized ‘place to hit’ for those established in their craft. I truly believe our city is doing an excellent job upholding our reputation as a happening place for music. My only wish for Dayton in the new year is we continue to do what we already do so well: Support Live Music!” More info: www.sweetbetsy.net.

Dan Raridan (hottie in Dan Raridan & The Calientes): “Put down your mobile devices and immerse yourself in the show. You think you can multi-task? You can’t! It’s been studied. By scientists. Honor the memory of Jeremy [Frederick, a local musician who died unexpectedly in August at age 39]: stand at the front of the stage and pump your fist. Go see the band you dismissed after streaming five seconds of their song through horrible PC speakers. They might surprise you.” More info: http://danraridan.bandcamp.com.
