Two major acts from the ’70s and early ’80s will return to the area this summer for The Celebrity Concert For Charity benefiting cystic fibrosis and The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton.

KC & The Sunshine Band will headline the event slated for Aug. 30 at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering. The Little River Band will open the special evening.

John Condit, executive director of the CCFC (Celebrity Concert for Charity) and general sales manager for WHIO-TV, said this is the first time in 16 years that previous performers have been invited to return. Little River Band headlined the show back in 2008; KC & The Sunshine Band appeared in 2011.

“Wayne Nelson, lead vocalist for LRB, and Harry Casey (KC and the Sunshine Band) both have friends who are or have been affected by cystic fibrosis, and they surprised our audiences in the past by sharing those stories,” Condit said. “A group of volunteers started this concert in 1998. We are involved because my wife has lost two siblings to Cystic Fibrosis and has another sister who is doing very well with it. They’ve made great progress. Today, those will CF can live well into their fourties and fifties without needing a lung transplant.”

Karen Durham, general manager of Fraze Pavilion, said the Fraze is pleased to have the Celebrity Concert for Charity return for its 16th year.

“These concerts are well attended, always a lot of fun and raise a lot of money that stays here locally,” Durham said.
