Cedarville grad, ‘Biggest Loser’ contestant weighs in

By Jacqui Boyle

Michael Dorsey, a Cedarville University graduate and former employee, is a contestant on Season 14 of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” which premiered in a two-night event on Sunday, Jan. 6 and 7. Dorsey watched the episode, which aired at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, on NBC, and wrote a blog entry, sharing his thoughts only with our publications. Watch “The Biggest Loser” at 8 p.m. Mondays on NBC. Look out for more of Dorsey’s blog entries here throughout the season.

Being a fan of the show since season one, there are monuments along the journey that you want to see yourself reach as a contestant. After surviving the first weigh in, the next big milestone is making it to the game transition, which for our season is when we become individuals.

What a great night it was when Alison walked through that door and handed us our new shirts, which was REALLY exciting! While I wouldn’t have minded orange or green, I am team charcoal? It took a couple days for me to fall in love with my color, but after those days, I wore my charcoal with PRIDE. This is what we have been waiting for, the opportunity to be responsible for our own fates as opposed to relying on a team of people to get the job done.

I always said that if I were put in a situation with a temptation challenge, I wouldn’t succumb to the temptation. That is definitely better said then done when you are ACTUALLY in the situation. However, given the fact that this was week seven, I had pretty much come to a place in my headspace where I realized I needed to start preparing for the temptations I will eventually face at home. So for me to take that seat during the challenge was indeed my opportunity to take a stand and make a statement. While I am not surprised Francelina and Alex were the big eaters of the challenge, I was kind of hoping we as a group would be able to resist the temptation. But, first week of singles, everything matters, and for Francelina and Alex, the prospects of having a two pound advantage were pretty important.

When I found out I would be working out with Dolvett, I was really excited! He was my first pick as a trainer, and so I was looking forward to doing something different. I have nothing against Bob; it is just nice to have something different every now and again. However, about 15 minutes into the workout, I was hoping Bob would storm the gym and demand I be placed back under his care. Dolvett was brutal, but what I do appreciate about him is that he figured me out and really helped me see some barriers (fear) that I was putting up in my journey to a better me.

This week’s challenge was by far my favorite. We had cool outfits, a great set and a challenge I could actually do. The winner of the challenge got a visit from a loved one since it was Valentine’s week. To have the opportunity to bring my wife to the Ranch would be INCREDIBLE! I am going to do everything I can to win it. However, to no avail, it didn’t happen. Danni won the challenge; not only did she get to share her win with someone, she chose Gina, but Danni also gave up her own win to me. For Danni to give her prize away to me and Gina … WOW! This is so incredible because now, I can go home and Chavalle’ can really appreciate what I went through on the Ranch all because she was able to experience it for herself.

Seeing Chavalle AND Little Mike was awesome. To see her surprise when she saw me was priceless! I am such a blessed man, and to have a wife who is as supportive of me as she is … priceless!

What a weigh in. I needed to lose more than 10 pounds to stay another week, and I lost … exactly 10 pounds, which meant I was up for elimination against Francelina. In the end, I was voted off the show. There are so many things I could say about it, but what I am going to say is that Francelina is a great woman, and she deserved to be on the Ranch just as much as me.

The controversy about Jeff and Gina is really for another day. At this point, I’ve moved past it and am ready to really get this new life going. What an incredible journey this has been so far, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds in the future. I started on “The Biggest Loser” weighing in at 444 pounds, and now, I weigh 320 pounds. I lost 124 pounds!

I have a great chance at winning the at-home-prize of $100,000. Make sure and tune in to the live finale on NBC to see if I take home the prize.
