Michael Dorsey, a Cedarville University graduate and former employee, is a contestant on Season 14 of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” which premiered in a two-night event on Sunday, Jan. 6, and Monday, Jan. 7. Dorsey watched the episode which aired at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, on NBC, and wrote a blog entry, sharing his thoughts only with our publications. Watch “The Biggest Loser” at 8 p.m. Mondays, on NBC. Week 4 … I have been on the “Biggest Loser” Ranch for four weeks, and I am starting to get into a routine. Even after the distraction of the room last week, having Bob Harper (and the other trainers) around to motivate and facilitate our workouts has become routine. So when Alison Sweeney comes in telling us our trainers are going to be gone for the week … sure, why not?
My biggest concern going into this new opportunity was the fact that my team was FULL of Alpha personalities, and I could see a lot of bickering taking place because we all are leaders. However, when Bob told us to take turns as leaders, I felt that was definitely doable. For the most part, it went well, but as you could see from the episode, it didn’t have that same zest and zeal as normal.
The 5K Run/Walk was my favorite challenge so far. Before we knew exactly what we were going to be doing, I was a little anxious, but after I saw the other people who were going to race with us, I knew everything was going to be alright. I think this was the first time I actually realized that this “Biggest Loser” journey I was taking was even more than me. Throughout the race, people would pass by and offer encouraging words and tell us how much of an inspiration we are! As I watched this episode, I told my wife that this was actually the turning point for me in my attitude and intensity, so you will have to stay tuned to see how that plays out.
Watching the trainers work with the ambassadors (Biingo, Lindsay and Sunny) in their homes was very inspirational for me. Up until this point, our view of things is pretty one sided because we were on the ranch while the trainers were away. But to see that they were being just as instrumental in the kids’ lives as they are in ours made me feel really good and also showed that Biingo, Sunny and Lindsay need the trainers just as much as we do.
I didn’t remember the Blue Team being so lethargic and lacking energy like we appeared on the episode. The fact that Bob and Jillian mentioned it in interviews suggests we really were as bad as we looked. However, they did a good job of whipping us back to reality!
The argument between Jeff and Jillian was a good opportunity for Jeff because, like me, he is a very confident person, and every now and again, we need someone to be constructively critical of us to pull the greatness out. I do remember trying to stay under the radar that day though because I didn’t want to feel the wrath of Jillian (haha).
These weigh-ins are bittersweet because it’s an opportunity to see your progress, but also it’s an opportunity for someone to go home. Of course, it came down to Blue and White; how ironic, right? Pam getting that three pounds … next to Nate’s elimination, was probably the hardest one I had to go through. However, seeing her after the episode was incredible!
