Mark your calendars, sports fans: Single game tickets for the 2012 Dayton Dragons baseball season will go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dragons box office.

That’s just a few weeks prior to the season opener, April 5 at Fifth Third Field, when the Dragons play the West Michigan Whitecaps.

In addition to single ticket sales, season ticket packages are being made available to the general public. It’s the first time that’s occurred since the Dayton Dragons inaugural season 12 years ago.

The new ticket packages — which can be purchased in a 17-game, nine-game, or eight-game plan — comes as the organization responds to requests from the public to make the change.

“Over 12 seasons, our fans helped us reach a national record of 844 consecutive sold-out games — and counting — at Fifth Third Field,” said Dragons team president Robert Murphy. “But, I hear the same thing almost everywhere I go: ‘We would buy Dragons tickets if we could get them.’ Well, we love our fans, and we’ve heard their voices. So, we’re making a change.”

The team is scheduled to play 70 home games during the regular season this year.

How to buy tickets

■ In person, at the Dragons box office (located next to the main entry gates at Fifth Third Field), any Miami Valley Kroger store or any Ticketmaster outlet. The box office will be open throughout the season from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On weekend game dates, the box office will open at noon and close following the game. It will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays when the team is on the road.

■ Online at daytondragons.com.

■ By phone by calling the Dragons box office at (937) 228-2287; or Ticketmaster charge-by-phone (937) 228-2323.
