Family dog dies in Franklin house fire blamed on electrical appliance

An appliance malfunction is believed to have caused a house fire in Franklin late Wednesday afternoon that left the family dog dead.

Franklin firefighters were called to the 700 block of Forrest Avenue about 5:30 p.m., fire Lt. Kyle Lovelace said.

He said the fire may have started in a microwave oven or coffee maker in the kitchen. He estimated the fire caused about $25,000 in damage to the structure and contents.

The family has been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

“Most of the damage was in the kitchen and there’s smoke damage throughout the house,” Lovelace said.

Noah Woods and his wife said their dog, a chihuahua mix, died in the fire.

Lovelace said no humans were injured in the blaze.
