‘Limited’ damage after reports of smoke at Fairfield school

Fairfield School officials report: “There was no active fire. School officials have been allowed to enter the building to assess damage. It appears that damage is limited to a very small area. Fairfield Fire Department still on scene.”

INITIAL REPORT:

Firefighters are on the scene after a report of smoke coming from the second floor of South Elementary in Fairfield.

There are no injuries, according to Fairfield City School officials, and no visible flames.

All staffers have been evacuated, officials said.

“There were just a few staffers there setting up classrooms,” said Fairfield City Schools spokeswoman Gina Gentry-Fletcher of the school at 5460 Bibury Road.

The fire was reported at approximately 1:20 p.m.

School officials do not suspect there is extensive damage to the school, which along with other Fairfield City Schools is scheduled to open Sept. 5.
