Flying Pig Marathon officials review procedures

The Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon will go on as scheduled, but additional precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and security of participants, volunteers and spectators, officials said.

“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to the staff, participants, volunteers, spectators and first responders of the Boston Marathon,” said Iris Simpson-Bush, executive director of the marathon.

The 15th annual marathon begins at 6:30 a.m. May 5.

The weekend of events will go on as scheduled, Simpson-Bush said, but with the following precautions:

  • Local police and fire officials will conduct a full safety audit of the entire course
  • Working with Running USA, the national governing body of U.S. road races, Flying Pig organizers will reach out to the marathons and road races scheduled during the next three weeks to share best practices in safety and security.

  • Changes could be made to the Start and Finish line to increase security. Any changes will be communicated by race officials.
