Franklin collecting donations to help Hurricane Irma, Harvey victims

A community hurricane relief drive is underway in Franklin.

The city is partnering with Caring Partners, a local mission resource center, to collect personal hygiene and cleaning supplies as well as bottled water for areas affected by recent hurricanes.

Residents can drop off donation at Caring Partners, 601 Shotwell Drive. Collection barrels will also be set up at local businesses, schools and the police station at 400 Anderson St., according to Police Chief Russ Whitman.

Personal hygiene items that will be accepted include:

  • Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Diapers
  • Diaper wipes
  • Bottled water or Gatorade

Prescription medications, clothing and food items are not being accepted.

Whitman said Caring Partners is also in need of volunteers to help sort and box supplies for shipping.

“Once we fill a truck, Caring Partners will handle the logistics of getting the supplies where they are needed,” Whitman said.

Caring Partners has set up a Facebook page so you can monitor the truck's progress to see exactly where donations are going. Click here to see more.
