Free evening event to feature food, music, activities

Oktoberfest has evolved into a weeks-long celebration in many parts of Germany and around the world. Celebrate this festive occasion Sept. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. under a lighted tent at Turtle Pond across from the Wright-Patterson Club.

The evening’s entertainment will feature the live sounds of the authentic German band Turbo Accordions Express. Caricature artists will also be on hand to provide a sketch and preserve your family’s memory of the festivities. Face painters will add extra artistic flair.

Come early and receive a free Oktoberfest stein (for first 300 guests).

Put on your best German lederhosen or dirndl and compete for best dressed. Judging for the costume contest begins at approximately 7 pm. Also try your hand at a stein race or a stein hoisting contest to win prizes. Be sure to sign up at the 88th Force Support Squadron tent to secure your place in the competitions.

You can also test your strength with the high striker hammer hit to ring the bell, play cornhole or try the gigantic hula ring toss.

The Oktoberfest menu will showcase German food and beverages. A complimentary German meal, soda and water will be available while supplies last. German beverages are available for purchase.

This free event is brought courtesy of the 88th Force Support Squadron and is open to everyone with access to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
