Hocking Hills adds two new trails to the park

Hocking Hill State Park added two new trails to one of Ohio’s most popular tourist attractions.

The two trails include Whispering Cave and Hemlock Bridge Trail.

Whispering Cave remains somewhat unique for its name that represents the acoustics in this cave. The name comes from the idea that a visitor can whisper in the cave and hikers as far as 275 feet away from the other end can hear it.

“Now that travelers can access both Whispering Cave and Hemlock Bridge Trail, they have two more beautiful reasons to visit the Hocking Hills,” said Hocking Hills Tourism Association Executive Director Karen Raymore. “Add the region’s many active experiences, such as rappelling, kayaking, zip line, canopy tours, eco tours, horseback riding, antiquing and other activities, and the five million travelers who visit the Hocking Hills from around the world each year typically find that they need to extend their stay in order to get it all in.”

Whispering Cave is second in size to the biggest cave at Hocking Hills State Park, Ash Cave. While Whispering Cave is 275 feet across and 150 feet high, Ash Cave is 700 feet across and 900 feet high. Both caves feature a trickling waterfall at the top.

The new Hemlock Bridge Trail is only a 0.2 mile trek from Whispering Cave. Hemlock Bridge Trail connects both the Grandma Gatewood (Buckeye) Trail and Cedar Falls, giving easy access to nearby Old Man’s Cave and Cedar Falls trails. The bridge also features the only swinging bridge in the park, which carries hikers over Old Man’s Creek.
