Immigration rally planned for outside Rep. Mike Turner’s office today

Dayton area residents will rally in support of a program protecting people who illegally immigrated to the U.S. when they were children as the Trump administration considers ending the policy.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is expected to announce today that in six months the administration will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, commonly referred to as DACA, according to the Associated Press. The policy was started under former president Barack Obama.

The rally, called “Support and Defend DACA! Dayton is for DREAMers!” is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at 120 W. 3rd St. outside the building housing U.S Rep. Mike Turner’s office, according to the event’s Facebook page. Turner is a Republican who represents Ohio’s 10th congressional district.

The rally will be hosted by the Montgomery County and Greene County chapters of Organizing for Action and Dayton Indivisible for All.

As of 11 a.m., nearly 50 people had responded to the rally’s event page saying they were attending while another 222 said they were interested in going. The event page asked those who attend to bring signs with them for the rally.
