At least 17 companies are planning to be part of a job fair Aug. 15 in Butler County.

Planning to be at the OhioMeansJobs-Butler County event are companies that include Amazon, Amstan Logistics, C&K Industrial, Darana Hybrid, Dunkin’ Donuts, ECI, Gardens Alive, Gilligan Oil, Goco Shell, Home Instead Senior Care, LCD Home Health Agency, Popeyes, Spectrum, Trinity Couriers, United Performance Metals, Viaquest and Waffle House.

Located at at 4631 Dixie Highway in Fairfield, OhioMeansJobs-Butler County last held a job fair on May 2.

“I try and hold a large job fair that allows all employers to attend once a quarter,” said Melissa O’Brien, business services manager for OhioMeansJobs-Butler County. “Most companies have had open positions and several are recruiting for the upcoming holiday season where they need to increase their employee numbers.”

O’Brien said most job seekers tell her office that the hiring process can be too lengthy.

“They need to get to work right away and not wait for two weeks to begin their new job,” she said.

Job seekers also say employers are asking for experienced workers, but “how do you get experience if you can get a job?” O’Brien said.

In addition, many job seekers say there are not many entry level jobs and many jobs that say they are entry level require between two and five years of experience, she said.

On the employer side of the issue, most employers express their challenges in not finding a qualified applicant, finding people who are committed to their job, including showing up every day, the ability to pass a drug screen and background check, O’Brien said.

Plus, with unemployment rates low, there are not as many job seekers looking for work, she said.

If you can’t wait for the Aug. 15 job fair and want to apply earlier to the some of the companies, one of those companies and two others have opportunities will be at OhioMeansJobs-Butler County on Wednesday, Aug. 9.
