John Legend coming to Dayton for Clinton, hosting concert in Cincy

Grammy and Academy award winning singer John Legend, a Springfield native, will return to Ohio to campaign for Democrat Hillary Clinton in Cincinnati and Dayton on Sunday afternoon.

Legend, who releases his new single “Love Me Now” on Friday, will hit college campuses to urge millennials to register to vote. Ohio’s voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 11, and early voting starts the next day. Legend is expected to hold a concert in Cincinnati.

Legend will urge Ohioans to check their registrations and make a plan to vote early. As of Monday, 957,260 Ohioans have requested absentee ballots for the Nov. 8 election. This is slightly more than the 922,199 absentee ballots that had been requested by this point in the 2012 election when a record 1.87 million ballots were cast early by mail or in person.

Legend is no stranger to the campaign trail. In 2008, he sang with artist will.i.am in a music video, “Yes We Can,” for Barack Obama’s first presidential bid. In 2010, Legend performed on the Oval at Ohio State University before Obama spoke at a rally there and in 2012, Legend campaigned for Obama at the University of Toledo. His twitter feed, @JohnLegend, is peppered with anti-Trump and pro-Clinton tweets.

Details on the Legend events will be released soon, the Clinton campaign said. Members of the public interested in attending Legend's event Sunday afternoon in the greater Dayton area can RSVP here.
