Opening day today for 2nd Dayton-area MOD Pizza

The Cornerstone of Centerville’s newest restaurant is opening today, Sept. 20.

MOD Pizza is poised to launch its second Dayton-area location at the large-scale retail and mixed-use development near I-675 and Wilmington Pike. The quick-serve casual pizza restaurant opened its first Dayton-area location at 9196 N. Main St. (Ohio 48) in Englewood in April.

The Seattle-based pizza chain will occupy 2,800 square feet in the Shoppes at Cornerstone III, a four-tenant retail building along Wilmington Pike on the western edge of the Cornerstone development. It will share the building with three other restaurants: Firehouse subs; First Watch, the breakfast-and-lunch chain that operates three other Dayton-area locations; and Zoup!, which opened its first Dayton-area location next to Whole Foods in Washington Twp. last year.

In Butler County, a MOD Pizza opened in West Chester across from the Liberty Center in December.

Founded in 2008, MOD is among the pioneers of the fast casual pizza segment, in which individual pizzas are made on demand, then cooked in an 800 degree oven in less than three minutes. Made-to-order salads also are available, as are milkshakes, house-made lemonades and iced teas, and local craft beers and wine.

The concept is similar to that of Kettering-based Rapid Fired Pizza, which has opened multiple restaurants across the Miami Valley in the last 18 months, and Cleveland-based pizza chain PizzaFire, which opened its first Dayton-area location last August in Kettering.
