Licenses for Wright-Patt hunting seasons available

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio — The 2017-2018 hunting season at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base officially opens Sept. 1 with squirrel and dove seasons, followed by teal and Canada goose seasons kicking off Sept. 2 and deer archery season opening Sept. 30.

The dates for this year’s season correspond with the hunting seasons established by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, except the second deer gun season is not permitted on base.

All active duty and retired military members, active and retired DoD civilian employees, members of the Reserve components of the military, base contractors and immediate family members thereof, are eligible to hunt on Wright-Patterson AFB.

Bona fide guests of any eligible hunter may also hunt; however, guests must be with a sponsor at all times when hunting and are limited to one guest per licensed hunter per day.

Hunters must comply with all applicable federal, state and base licensing requirements. WPAFBI32-7064, Hunting, Fishing and Boating on Wright-Patterson AFB, dated Oct. 27, 2014, is the current, applicable base regulation.

Base hunting licenses are available for purchase at the Rod and Gun Club, Bldg. 892, Area A, and Outdoor Rec, Bldg. 95, Area A.

In addition to a base license, all hunters, regardless of age, must have in their possession a valid state of Ohio hunting license except for active duty military on annual leave. Hunters 16 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

WPAFB Daily Hunting Permit (days pheasants are stocked) $36.00

Ohio Resident Hunting License $19.00*

Ohio Resident Youth Hunting License $10.00

Non-Resident Hunting License $125.00

Tourist Small Game Hunting License (3 day license) $40.00

Ohio Either-Sex Deer Permit (Adult) $24.00

Ohio Either-Sex Deer Permit (Youth) $15.00

Ohio Wetlands Habitat Stamp $15.00*

Federal Migratory Bird Stamp $25.00

*Not required if active duty on annual leave

Hunting is permitted on base in designated areas only. Due to increased mission requirements, the Warfighter Training Center, formerly known as the Prime BEEF training area, will not be open to any hunting this year.

Hunting also is prohibited within 750 feet of the munitions storage area as shown by the red hatched areas on the hunting map posted annually in the Rod and Gun Club.

Hunters planning on archery hunting on base are required to annually qualify. Qualifications will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning Aug. 9 and ending Aug. 30.

Deer hunting equipment, such as tree stand, ground blind, trail camera,cannot be set up/placed within the hunting areas until a base hunting permit has been purchased.
