DAYTON — The Humane Society of Dayton helps lost, abandoned and homeless animals and also helps families in the Miami Valley become educated pet owners. Services range from reuniting lost pets with their families to spay and neuter programs.

Another nonprofit group — Girl Scouts of Western Ohio Troop 30044 — has chosen to help the Humane Society as part of their requirement for the Silver Award, the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can achieve.

Scout leader Amanda Stockman says the six cadettes will be holding a pet supply drive and bake sale from 4 to 6 p.m. May 7 and 8 at 273 N. Westview Ave. in Dayton

Here are the items the Humane Society is seeking: paper towels, pet shampoo, collars, dog cages, cat toys, dog toys, sterilized natural bones, canned pet food, dry kitten/puppy food, wild bird food, bunny toys, plastic baby keys, large towels and pet bedding.

The Society’s executive director, Brian Wektge says that it’s the time of year for kitten season, so supplies for kittens are welcome. Those supplies include gently used blankets as well as KMR, a milk replacement formula for kittens sold at pet and specialty stores.

Hours for drop-off at the Humane Society are 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. If you have questions, call (937) 268-7387.
