“It was just an opportunity that my family and I could not pass up,” Smith said in a phone interview from Springfield.
Smith is in his seventh year in Clark County, and fifth as superintendent.
He said the Clark County board is working to replace him.
“That is something our board of education in Springfield is working on right now,” he said.
Smith said he was looking forward to going to the larger district which, unlike Clark County, offers adult education in addition to vocational classes for public schools in Warren County.
“I’m really going to miss Clark County,” he added.
Smith said he and his wife, Mary, plan to move from the Beavercreek area to Warren County. Mary Smith works in the Cincinnati area and her two sons graduated from Springboro High School, he said.
He declined to comment on his current pay or what he would be paid in Warren County.
Warren County officials indicated there was no contract yet.

The Warren County board is expected to take formal action at its next regular meeting on March 16 at 6 p.m. at the Greentree Health Science Academy Conference Room, 5757 Innovation Dr. in Middletown.
