Oakwood stadium completion will depend on weather

Weather conditions could delay the completion of Oakwood’s Lane Stadium, district Community Relations Director Traci Hale said.

Oakwood’s first track meet, which is scheduled for April 24, is still set to be held at Lane Stadium though weather in the past few weeks has caused the district to tweak its schedule before the facility could be completely ready.

“If weather holds, everything should be okay,” Hale said.

Potentially damaging storms are expected to move into the region late Thursday.

The district was set to start on the track surface and press box installation March 30 to have the facility up and running when students returned from spring break April 10.

Snow and rainy conditions delayed the track and press box installations, resulting in changes of venue for team practices and lacrosse games, including a boy’s home game being moved to an away game.

The stadium’s press box was installed Wednesday afternoon.

While the track has been surfaced, it still hasn’t been striped for completion. Hale said striping should be done Thursday, barring any more weather-related setbacks.

Oakwood hosted a dedication ceremony in March for the unveiling of the $4 million athletic stadium.
