Waynesville school board to pick football coach tonight

The Wayne Local Schools Board of Education is meeting in executive session at 5:30 p.m. today to discuss who to hire as the varsity football coach.

Superintendent Patrick Dubbs is recommending the rehiring of Scott Jordan, the coach since Brandon Philpot was removed from the job in August 2016. Philpot is the other applicant up for the job.

Philpot was removed from the job after he was pulled over in July 2016 by the Ohio Highway Patrol and cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless operation, driving in marked lanes and turn and stop sign violations in West Carrollton while driving home from a celebration at Cheeks Gentleman’s club in anticipation of his marriage to Board of Education member Dave Barton’s daughter.

Jordan was the coach when former player Hunter Brown as convicted and sentenced for retaliation following bullying allegations.

However Dubbs said Jordan handled this case well after learning of the allegations.

Philpot was still the Spartan coach at the time of acts resulting in gross sexual imposition convictions against Cole Phillips, another former Spartan.

Philpot’s father-in-law Barton was the lone vote against interim appointments of Jordan as coach and Chip King as athletic director.
