UPDATE @ 8:50 p.m.: The Kettering City Council voted unanimously to OK two grants that will bring jobs to the city.

EARLIER REPORT

Kettering City Council is seeking two county grants that could bring nearly 500 new jobs to the city.

The city will vote tonight to request ED/GE funds (Economic Development and Government Equity) for Tenneco Automotive Operating Company and NanoSperse, a composite material manufacturing company.

The ED/GE fund application for Tenneco would be for $500,000, and would offset the expense associated with improvements to space the company leases at 2555 Woodman Dr, according to the city’s agenda.

NanoSperse, which would create up to six new jobs while retaining eight, needs an application of $55,000 for their facility project.

Tenneco was already approved for an ED/GE grant for a 1.724 percent, nine-year job creation tax credit in August.

In September, the city manager was approved to enter an agreement with the company for an economic development incentive grant for an estimated $1.2 million over five to seven years. The project could bring approximately 483 new jobs to the company while retaining the existing 478.

Kettering City Council meets at 7:30 tonight at the government center south building, 3600 Shroyer Road.
