Seven apply for vacant Miami Twp. trustee post

The resignation of a Miami Twp. trustee has drawn the interest of seven who are applying to replace him.

Those seeking to be picked for the seat vacated by Robert Matthews Jr. last month include a former trustee, two operators of high-profile hospitality businesses, a Community Foundation of Miami Twp. board member and former chair of a township levy campaign, a Miamisburg Community Foundation board member, a community activist, and an executive with a regional building group.

Greg Bell, Terry Brill, Donald Culp, Eric Flasher, Mark Langdon, John Morris and Michael Nolan all filed documents before Monday’s 5 p.m. deadline to apply for the seat. The candidates will be considered in a board of trustees executive session set for 8 a.m. Friday, said board President Andrew Papanek.

Matthews, the township board’s vice president, resigned March 28 to avoid a potential conflict of interest in his new job. He began a position with Frost Brown Todd, LLC, on March 29, according to the township. The firm has done business with the township.

Matthews was elected trustee in 2013 and ran unsuccessfully as the Republican candidate for Montgomery County Commission last year.
