Local woman climbs 2nd highest mountain in continental U.S.

A local woman has climbed Colorado’s tallest mountain, the second-highest summit in the continental United States.

Cheryl Dillin this month completed the solo climb of Mt. Elbert, whose elevation of 14,439 feet is second only to California’s Mt. Whitney (14,505 feet) among U.S. peaks outside of Alaska.

The Clearcreek Twp. resident made the climb Aug. 11. Next month Dillin and the team she is part of - Team GRIT - plan to climb The Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming as part of a mentoring program.

The team is raising money and awareness of services needed for women with cancer, specifically for the Pink Ribbon Girls, a Dayton-based organization supporting individuals and families affected by breast cancer

Dillin is owner of Hardy Communications and Marketing. Her husband, Larry Dillin, is president of VisCap Development, which manages Austin Landing.
