Area churches are offering “Ashes to Go” for Ash Wednesday today, to mark the start of the Christian season of Lent.

The Belmont United Methodist Church in Dayton on Smithville Road will be offering Ashes to Go from noon to 5 p.m. for those in a rush, busy, or don’t want to go into the church, according to an emailed statement from a church pastor.

Also, the David’s United Church of Christ, on West David Road in Kettering, will distribute ashes from noon to 1 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“We’ll meet folks outside in the parking lot, and they don’t even have to get out of their cars,” Rev. Dr. Brian Newcomb, Sr. Pastor at the church said in a release. “We’ll impose the ashes with a word of blessing for people as they enter this season of preparation and hope, and then hand them a card with a prayer to use in the days to come.”

“It’ll be brief, but we hope helpful.”
