Dog euthanized after biting girl

Greene County Animal Control confirms that the dog was euthanized Monday.

UPDATE @ 4:25 p.m. (Dec. 13):

The family relinquished ownership of the dog to the Greene County Animal Control where it remains in quarantine.

UPDATE @ 12:01 p.m. (Dec. 12):

The grandmother of a 9-month-old girl, who was critically injured when she was bit in the head by a family dog, told dispatchers the family had issues with the animal prior to Friday’s incident.

The grandmother said the dog had snapped at her other grandchildren and that her daughter was in the process of trying to find a new home for the dog.

According to the 911 call, the grandmother was using the restroom when she heard the baby scream and came out to discover what had happened.

UPDATE @ 2:45 p.m. (Dec. 9):

Xenia police confirm a 9-month-old girl is in critical condition after being bitten by the family dog—a border collie chow mix.

The baby was being watched by a family member, according to police, and when the sitter stepped away briefly, the dog attacked the child.

The child was transported to Greene Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Dayton Childrens.

No criminal charges are being considered.

The dog was removed by animal control officers and will be quarantined for 10 days.

FIRST REPORT

A baby has reportedly been bitten by a dog on Dayton Avenue in Xenia this afternoon.

Initial emergency dispatch reports state an 8-month-old baby was bitten in the head by a lab-chow mix dog.

The incident was reported in the 900 block Dayton Avenue.

Medics on the scene requested Careflight or MedFlight to meet them at Greene Memorial Hospital, but weather conditions may prevent the medical helicopters from flying.
