No agreement on fairgrounds

The city of Huber Heights and the Montgomery County Agricultural Society said they were unable to reach agreement on sale of land off Interstate 70 for a new county fairgrounds. The agricultural society said it would resume its search for a site for the fairgrounds following sale of the current location.

VANDALIA

Exhibit photos sought

The Vandalia Cultural Arts Program is seeking entries for a photo display Kidstagram to be placed at the Art Park from June 1-May 15, 2018. The entry deadline is March 15. For more information, visit the city website at www.vandalia.org.

TIPP CITY

Mancz is officer of year

Bruce Mancz, a long-time member of the Tipp City Police Department, was recognized as the Officer of the Year for 2016 during the Feb. 6 meeting of Tipp City Council. He joined the department in 1989 after serving in the military police in the Marine Corps. Mayor Pat Hale read a proclamation honoring Mancz. Fellow officers nominated him for the recognition, Chief Eric Burris said. Mancz serves as the department range master and firearms instructor.

Police academy coming

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is taking applications for the citizen’s police academy scheduled for March 8-May 24. The class will be held Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Training Center, 2050 N. County Road 25A, Troy. Applications are available at www.miamicountysheriff.org. Trolls movie at library

The Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library in Pleasant Hill will host a matinee showing of the movie “Trolls” on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m.

VikingFest Feb. 18

VikingFest 2017 will be held Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Miami East Elementary/Junior High Building. The event will feature baking contests, silent auction, student art displays, inflatables, food and other activities. The event is a fundraiser for the Miami East Education Foundation.

Genealogy program set

The Miami County Historical & Genealogical Society’s February program, “Preserve and Protect Your Research with Roots Magic Genealogy Software,” will be presented by genealogist, lecturer and blogger Amie Tennant Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Piqua Public Library.

Youth Art Fair coming

The Englewood Youth Art Fair will be held March 4. Entries must be delivered to the Government Center lobby between 10 a.m. and noon Feb. 25.
