9-1-1 operator needed

Beavercreek is seeking lateral applicants for a full-time 9-1-1 communications operator. The successful candidate must have public safety communications operator experience of at least two years within the last five years. The salary range is $21-$29.50 per hour and commensurate with experience. The position is responsible for the effective, efficient operation of emergency communications equipment, receiving requests for police, fire and medical assistance, dispatching appropriate personnel in response to requests, and maintaining radio contact with police officers.

Try a Truck and open house Oct. 14

On Oct. 14 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. there will be a Try a Truck and Fire Department Open House. Come out to the municipal maintenance facility, 789 Orchard Lane, and climb on and try out a variety of trucks and vehicles. There will be snow plows, fire trucks, police cruisers, front loaders, a bounce house, and more.

The Beavercreek Township Fire Department will also host a Fire Prevention Week Open House at Fire Station 61, 2195 Dayton-Xenia Road. Meet Sparky, see the careflight helicopter, and enjoy the chili cook-off.

FAIRBORN

Spooktacular Parade Oct. 20

On Oct. 20 beginning at 7:30 p.m. join the City of Fairborn for the annual Spooktacular parade and Costume Contest.

The parade proceeds from Fairborn YMCA down Central to Main St. and ends in front of the downtown festival stage.

October hikes offered

On Oct. 16, 25, and 30 beginning at 11 a.m. several hikes are being offered. Enjoy a two-mile, moderate paced hike at Oakes Quarry Park, 1267 E. Xenia Drive

This Fairborn city park, the highest point in Fairborn, is part of the Beavercreek Wetlands and is best known for its unique geological formations.

Participants will hike part of the perimeter trail and also part of the quarry basin area to view some interesting features of the park. The path is dirt, gravel, and rock with some inclines. Wear hiking boots or tennis shoes and bring water. Hiking poles are recommended.
