Butler County murder suspect found getting off bus in California

A Cincinnati man wanted for murder in the shooting death of a St. Clair Twp. man has been arrested - the minute he stepped off a bus in California, according the the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s Office detectives issued murder arrest warrant for William D. Harris, 26, Sunday for the death of 29-year-old Trey Shepard at his Nelson Street home early Saturday morning.

On Monday, detectives developed information that Harris was en route to Los Angeles, Calif. on a Greyhound bus with his girlfriend, Terriaoni Head 23, of Cincinnati, according to Maj. Mike Craft. After confirming the duo was on the bus, police were waiting for them, and they were taken into custody at about 4 p.m. Butler County time.

Craft said Harris was formally charged with murder and Head with obstruction of justice, a third-degree felony. An extradition hearing will be held in California.

Head is believed to have family in California, Craft said.

Additional charges against more people are possible.

A $5,000 reward was offered information leading to Harris’ arrest.

Harris is suspected in the shooting death of Shepard at about 12:30 a.m. at his Nelson Street residence.

Shepard died of his injuries after being flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

The incident happened when an intruder entered an upper floor apartment and shot Shepard during a reported exchange of gunfire.
