Pedestrian fatally struck by one, possibly two vehicles

A 47-year-old man trying to walk across Oxford State Road late Friday night was struck and killed, possibly by two vehicles.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not being released Saturday afternoon pending notification of his family, Butler County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tony Dwyer said.

According to preliminary investigation, the man was crossing Oxford State Road from north to south, near Old Oxford State Road. He was struck by an eastbound vehicle whose driver stayed at the scene.

The man possibly was hit by a second car, but Dwyer said he didn’t know which direction the second car was headed, nor whether the driver remained on scene.

Information about the driver or drivers was not available Saturday. No charges have been filed, Dwyer said.

Butler County deputies are responding late Friday night to a pedestrian strike on Oxford State Road , according to dispatchers.

Crews were sent to the intersection of Oxford State Road and Old Oxford State Road before midnight.

Initial reports indicate the county coroner has been called to the scene.
