INITIAL REPORT:

A 39-year-old mother and her 7-year-old son were killed after a car slammed into their Dayton home late Wednesday night.

The incident started with an officer patrolling the neighborhood spotted a car that immediately fled from him before he was able to conduct a traffic stop, Dayton Police Lt. Steven Bauer said. The driver appeared to have panicked when he saw the officer, sped off, and crashed into the house in the 800 block of Lilac Avenue around 11 p.m., Bauer said.

The mother, later identified as Maria Davis, 39, and her son Jerome Davis, 7 were in the living room of the home with a third, unidentified person when the crash occurred.

Maria was pronounced dead at the scene while Jerome was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The third person was not injured.

Police arrested Kesean W. Parks, 24, at the scene and booked him on preliminary charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drugs, according to online jail records.

Investigators said they are trying to determine the involvement of Parks, adding that it’s unclear if anyone else was in the car. Police confirmed at the scene they located a handgun and drugs inside the car after the crash.
