Dog saves Tipp City woman from falling ceiling

UPDATE @ 11:30 a.m.

Duke, a service dog for Barbara Jones of Tipp City, saved her life on Monday morning according to Jones.

Jones reported that around 3:30 a.m. Duke woke her up by scratching and howling while looking at the ceiling. This gave Jones just enough time to take cover under the couch before the ceiling in her home completely collapsed on top of her.

Jones was still able to reach her cell phone through the debris and immediately called 911.

Tipp City crews responded quickly to the house and despite not being able to see Jones or Duke through the wreckage, they were able to complete a fast and successful rescue.

Jones and Duke were both unharmed after the accident thanks to Duke’s life saving alert.

The American Red Cross has provided shelter for Jones the last three nights and she reports that Tipp City Community Services is helping with her housing arrangements for the rest of the week.
