Centerville Police Chief Bruce Robertson has retired from the department after almost 40 years of service.

Robertson joined the department in 1978 as a cadet and over the past four decades has received various promotions before being named chief in 2011, according to the city.

"We thank Chief Robertson for his service and wish him well in retirement,’ said Centerville City Manager Wayne Davis and Mayor Brooks Compton in a joint statement.

Lt. Matt Brown has been named as the interim police chief while a successor is selected.
