City to sell old life squad unit to school for $1

Franklin City Council recently approved the sale of a 2000 McCoy Miller Life Squad to the Warren County Career Center for $1.

Fire Chief Jonathan Westendorf said the former life squad unit was transferred to the city from JEMS as part of the division of assets when the two entities separated and that the unit has reached the end of its useful life as a transport for the sick and injured.

However, Westendorf said there was a significant opportunity for its use by the Warren County Career Center to help train firefighters and emergency medical technicians in the care, treatment and transportation of patients. He said while classroom simulation is good, the reality of space limitations, movement and other obstacles that are found while working in the back of an ambulance is much better.

Westendorf said selling the squad, which is no longer useful to the city, to WCCC will have a long-term benefit students, patients and the overall community.
