Clayton fire and police open house scheduled

CLAYTON – October is fire prevention month, giving the city of Clayton a chance to showcase its police and fire stations and crews.

On Oct. 19 from 4:30-7:30 p.m., the stations, located at 6996 Taywood Ave., will be open to the public. Their theme for the open house this year is, “Don’t Wait – Check the Date.” This slogan focuses on checking a smoke detector’s function and age.

There will be plenty to do for all ages, including activities for children, such as coloring books, spraying a fire hose, and meeting the firehouse dogs, two Dalmatians named Rage and Roco.

Activities geared toward adults include an impaired driving course with DUI goggles, free batteries courtesy of Batteries Plus, a fire extinguisher simulator, and fire safety education.

There will also be free bucket rides in the 100-foot ladder. Minimum height to participate is 46 inches.

There will be food and drink available.

Tours of the police and fire stations are also available.
