Coronavirus: Data for Dayton region shows possible increase in cases, DeWine says

Gov. Mike DeWine said he’s looking into new numbers that show a possible increase of coronavirus cases in the Dayton area.

The region’s arnot number, which measures how many people an infected person is spreading the virus to, is showing a slight increase.

DeWine and Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton previously said the arnot number was part of the data they were keeping an eye on as the state continues to reopen.

Ohio’s arnot number has been below one, meaning that a person with coronavirus is spreading it to less than one person on average.

As of last week, Ohio has distributed more than 30 million pieces of personal protective equipment, DeWine announced.

Of that PPE, 27.8 million pieces were sent to count emergency management agencies for local distribution.

The Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation has also sent more than 1.5 million face coverings to help with support workforce safety.

DeWine said that state is making sure state institutional agencies have enough PPE for 90 days.

The state is also looking at longer-term contracts for ventilators and N95 masks.

The governor said his administration is evaluating the results of an Invitation to Bid for gloves, gowns and three-ply masks.

The Ohio Department of Health is reporting 39,162 total cases of coronavirus and 2,421 deaths attributed to the virus.

There have been 36,355 confirmed cases and 2,196 deaths.

Hospitalizations are at 6,620 with 1,708 ICU admissions reported.

Ohio is continuing to reopen, with multiple businesses, including zoos, museums, aquariums and movie theaters, able to open their doors Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced that driver skills testing would resume at some locations June 12 and at all remaining locations June 16.
