Investigators said a bystander pulled a driver from a burning vehicle after a crash on U.S. 35 in Dayton Monday.
The crash was reported in the westbound lanes of U.S. 35 at Abbey Avenue in Dayton around 12:40 p.m. Monday.
An initial investigation found the driver fell asleep at the wheel while traveling west on U.S. 35 when he slammed into a pole. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle as it caught fire, police said.
A bystander was able to free the man from the wreckage before fire crews arrived on scene.
The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment, but his condition was not released. Our crew on the scene observed the man was alert and talking with medics and police before he was taken to a hospital.
