Dayton police investigate shooting that left victim ‘critical’

Police in Dayton are investigating an overnight shooting that has left a man in critical condition.

The 48-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound through the left arm and the bullet entered his chest and has lodged next to his spine, according to the Dayton police report.

The victim showed up at Good Samaritan Hospital around 12:39 a.m. and from there he was transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in critical condition, according to the report.

The victim was admitted into the intensive care unit at Miami Valley Hospital, where he remains a patient this afternoon.

The victim reported to hospital staff that someone stole his chicken and shot him at Fountain and Delaware avenues, but police did not find evidence of a shooting there, according to the report.

Officers tracked blood droplets left by the victim from the hospital to the 1300 block of West Fairview Avenue.

Police said it’s possible a white pickup truck dropped the victim off near the hospital at Fairview and Elsmere avenues.

The victim was not able to answer police questions because of his condition.
