Dayton VA site of new veterans ‘Walk of Honor’ tribute

A new brick walkway at the Dayton VA Medical Center campus will pay homage to veterans and those who support them, organizers say.

The Defenders of Freedom Walk of Honor is set to be dedicated in a 2 p.m. ceremony Friday, Oct. 6. The ceremony will be at a garrison flag next to the campus bandstand and in front of Building 320, a community living center on Ohio Avenue, Dayton VA spokesmen said.

The laser-engraved bricks are part of an American Veterans Heritage Center fund-raising campaign to raise money to restore an original organ in the Protestant Chapel, built in 1870 on the campus, and additional renovations, officials said.

So far, the bricks project has received a $5,000 donation and more than 100 bricks have been installed along the walkway, according to Dayton VA spokesman Raymond Hoy.
