EMS driver rear-ends SUV while taking patient to Logan County hospital

An Indian Lake EMS driver was cited Saturday evening in a rear-end collision in Russells Point while taking a patient to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.

The lifesquad was not on an emergency run when around 7:30 p.m. it struck a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban on east U.S. 33, Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof said.

The driver of the Chevy was intending to turn right onto Ohio 720 at the intersection when her vehicle was struck, he said.

The patient in the squad and the medic caring for the patient were taken to Mary Rutan Hospital, as were two juveniles in the Chevy who were treated for minor injuries, Freyhof said.

The operator of the squad was issued a citation for assured clear distance, the chief said.
