Families need holiday help

Family Resource Center is registering donors to ‘adopt’ a needy family or child.

BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Family Resource Center, which sponsors the Christmas Kindness Program to help area needy families with food and gifts at Christmas, has put out the call to get families to sign up to adopt a family or individual child for the program.

Susan Lopez, social service program manager for the center, said she expects 65 to 100 needy families in Bellbrook, Sugarcreek Twp. and Spring Valley, the area the center serves, to need help this Christmas.

How to help: Call the center at (937) 848-3810 to sign up. Leave a message on the answering machine if Lopez is not in. Donors will be matched with families or children in need who qualify by income and present a wish list of items needed. Usually the center asks that four gifts per child and one family gift be provided, along with a food card for a meal.

Time frame: Families can be adopted as early as November and as late as the first week in December. Gifts need to be brought to the center at 51 S. East St., Bellbrook, about a week and a half before Christmas.

The center also houses the ministerial food pantry, which currently needs toilet paper, pasta and pasta sauce, and shampoo, Lopez said.

Monetary contributions can be made by check, payable to Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Family Resource Center and sent to 51 S. East St., Bellbrook, Ohio, 45305.
